DESCRIPTION
A string of beads that is used for counting the recitation of chanting, vowing, in the meditation practice. it is also believed that every time one counts the beads, myriad of distress and idle thoughts escapes.
염주의 의미:
염불할 때 손으로 돌려서 염불하는 수효를 헤아리는 불구(佛具 Buddhist apparatus). 이는 염불 등을 할 때, 또는 절을 할 때에 그 수를 헤아리기 위해서 사용하기도 하며, 번뇌를 끊는 도구로 활용되기도 한다. 일심이나 본래심을 회복하는 데 도움을 주는 도구로 광범위하게 사용되고 있다. 염주 하나를 굴릴 때마다 번뇌가 끊어짐을 상징하므로 일념으로 염주를 돌림에 따라 부처님 광명이 자신에게 충만해지고 죄업이 소멸된다는 의미를 갖고 있다.
